Il Gatto is a remodeled Figlio, an Italian Restaurant and Bar in Uptown Minneapolis borrowing much of the old menu style and happy hours. The 2 main improvements to Il Gatto is the menu, with higher quality food (seafood focus) and opting for the Chino Latino mentality of bigger, shared portions and a livelier, trendier atmosphere. A little pricey? Yes, but remember, you can share the entrees or order a bunch of cheaper small plates. At Il Gatto, the food is more well prepared and homemade too. All the breads, pizzas, and even sausages and mozzarella are made on-site by the kitchen staff.

The bar area is a bit smaller than the old Figlio, but the wine list has grown and is more reasonably priced.

They should have stuck with the same layout as figlio and improved with the new materials. Even though the old fig needed a face lift and a change, this venue is a step back.

Il Gatto is merely a remodeled Figlio. The food is reasonably priced but NOT good. Stay away from all of the seafood pastas. The crab meat they use resembles the taste and texture of canned salmon. The pizzas and burgers are decent. Overall Il Gatto appeals to middle-aged suburban yuppies that think they have refined palates. The place may be ok for a drink but there are MUCH better dining options in uptown.

I hate hippies too, but uptown was about artists, music and creativity. I guess its all about the profits now. If you know anything about uptown, you know it was a center for the artistic and creative people that made it what it was - the customers and the store owners. With the new shift to high profits and chain stores, you just get a mall with Lake and Hennepin running through the middle. The real uptown vibe is mostly gone thanks to big profits and stressed out yuppie idiots moving in. At least a small part of 'Uptown" will just keep moving east block by block down Lake.

hippiehater- i f*ck~n love you. you are so right. im glad figlio is gone too. The company re-invested some money to make more money. the il gatto prices are pretty reasonable too. downtown is so ghetto. i like the direction uptown is going.
