Anyone who says Sushi Tango is great is an absolute idiot, have you seen the tuna they use in their rolls? No thanks. FujiYa uses fresh ingredients and their rolls always turn out great, but you definitely pay for it. Like others mentioned their worst quality is their lack of drink specials. But I love their Spicy Tuna Roll!

Most importantly, the sushi is decent. Unfortunately, the service is so hit-and-miss it detracts (unless you're at the sushi bar and can order when you want). Also, they only have ONE martini a day on HH and NO other cocktails/liquor. So, if you don't like the martini (one day it was "Pinapple upside down martini" - yuck) & want a cocktail during HH, you're paying full price. Good vibe/crowd though, and decent tunes in the bar.

LOVE FUJI YA! Hoping to go tonight, actually...cool atmosphere, awesome sushi, great appetizers and wonderful service. Sushi Snob has no idea what they are talking about. Sushi Tango is disgusting. Not worth your money, horrible service, and slimy fish. Want sushi? FUJI YA.

sushi snob is a retard!!!!!

Good happy hour and decent service, but the sushi is pretty mediocre and not so fresh. Makes me sad. I keep going back hoping that it will be better, but it never is. Sushi Tango is way better.

All I have to say is the regular bartender chick is awesome. This is probably my favorite sushi place in town for the price. Good happy hour and good atmosphere. I've rarely had a bad experience at FujiYa.

Came here for the happy hour after a movie tonight (Sunday). We sat at the sushi bar and had a great experience. The prices were good for happy hour, and the sushi chef made up a veggie roll not on the menu when he saw I wasn't digging the fish (not a fish lover, but thought I'd try anyway). Cute fruit dish for dessert, good pork gyoza, good beer and pretty attentive service. I will definitely be back!

Best HH...sit at the sushi bar and talk to the sushi chefs if you've never ate sushi b4...they will help u through your dinner. Make sure to have hot sake also.FYI we usually spend between 50-80 for two people...but we drink beer/sake throughout the meal. Greatest place for sushi!! I recommend this place to all my friends who come from out of town.

Somehow even during happy hour this gets expensive, but how delicious! Great service, great location, great food. The only fatter, richer, more velvety sea urchin I've had is when I dove for it myself. At Fuji-Ya, however, they remove the spines so you don't have to.

New to the Sushi Bar scene, but love Fuji-Ya. The atmosphere is great and the HH prices cannot be beat!

why does every sushi bar in Minneapolis have to double as a hipster disco-tech? what if i just want good sushi with out the butt-stabber crowd? I'm gonna start my own sushi bar where you can get a nice little lunch pack for 6 bucks. I'll put it on broadway and penn so all you uptown pretty boys wont go there. This place reminds me if uptowns lameness.

If you have guests from out of town or are entertaining a group of people, reserve a private room and go here! I always take visitors to Fuji Ya and I'm never disappointed. The private rooms make you feel like you're a VIP and the experience is truly special. Plus, the sushi is great (try the Winter Roll) and the staff is awesome.
-- Sushi Sushi gave this bar a 4 out of 5 at 14:19 05.22.08
I thought the sushi was terrible compared to nearly everywhere else in Minneapolis. They traded taste for presentation. Next time leave all the f-ing flowers and plants off my food and give me something that tastes good. Great environment though...
-- Mia gave this bar a 2 out of 5 at 16:05 03.04.08
Good and overall decent selection and quality. I wouldn't say the sushi is the best but it is decent...

I love Sushi. I love Fuji Ya. Simple as that. When I want some great sushi, good drinks and a nice atmosphere, I go to Fuji-Ya or Martini Blu. These two places kick every other sushi joint's ass in the cities....thanks
-- Nigiri Nick gave this bar a 5 out of 5 at 21:17 11.04.07
Fresh and wonderful sushi. The sushi chef's are awesome. They should dump the loud DJ's though, its nice to be able to have a conversation instead of screaming over the loud techno mix.
-- Boozles gave this bar a 5 out of 5 at 00:22 10.16.07
To Poodle Almond Ding...Beni Hana? How can you even compare?? That's like saying the best place to get authentic Chinese is Big Bowl or Leanne Chin. Fuji-Ya rocks!
-- Foodie gave this bar a 5 out of 5 at 10:29 08.09.07
I think the happy hour accompanied by the hot bartender Deanna makes the experience a 10. Whoever wrote that Benihana is better needs to stay in the suburbs! That place has no originality when it comes to flavor and it's a CHAIN for crapsake! YUK! Fuji Ya is awesome...Mutsu is my FAV!
-- B$ gave this bar a 5 out of 5 at 13:06 08.07.07
It's ok. Beni Hana on 394 & Louisiana is much, much, much, much better!
-- Poodle Almond Ding gave this bar a 3 out of 5 at 05:23 07.25.07
Met up for drinks and sushi the other night, incredibly nice staff that know great service! We ended up staying much longer than the planned happy hour and had an awesome night!
-- Ben gave this bar a 5 out of 5 at 12:24 07.13.07
Matthew is the best damn sushi chef in the twin cities.
-- Belle gave this bar a 5 out of 5 at 18:38 07.11.07
The description says that the restaurant can accommodate multiple large groups and it can, but the service given to my group was horrible. The automatic tip for groups means that the servers don't have to treat you well. That said, the sushi was fresh and tasty and I'm sure it would be a better experience for a date night.
-- Beth gave this bar a 3 out of 5 at 11:45 05.11.07
If you want to be served more than 3-drinks, do not get a server name "Stacey"! Bad Experience at Fuji-Ya? Don't expect a thing!
-- Laura gave this bar a 1 out of 5 at 13:26 03.09.07
Great sushi bar and tables for a date or couple of friends. Nice private japanese style dining rooms for something different with a larger group. Fantastic, fresh sushi and service - best in town.

Went here for the Sunday happy hour. It was happening, and a great deal!
-- Joto gave this bar a 5 out of 5 at 12:02 12.11.06
One of my fave's in Uptown. The sushi is always great. While it may not be the best food in the city it's definitely the best environment. Contrary to other's comments, the staff is great. The sushi chef's are always willing to strike up a conversation with the patrons and will also leave them to their privacy if that is what the customer wants. Again, excellent atmosphere, great food, excellent happy hours. My only qualm is their hours of operation. They really need to open earlier and stay open later and serve food later.
-- Chris gave this bar a 5 out of 5 at 10:56 10.16.06
I started going here after finding out about their great happy hour! Its incredible, and, although it might be cheaper to go somewhere else, the quailty for the price is unbeatable! Full sushi meal with drinks will be less than $30 for 2 people...superb!
-- Mike gave this bar a 5 out of 5 at 20:48 09.01.06
Trust me, food is mediocre and superbly overpriced. Deplorable service for the price. Crazy loud bar.
-- jpop gave this bar a 2 out of 5 at 22:28 01.19.06
This is a great happy hour...altough, I need to point out that Fuji-Ya isn't open on Mondays and the happy hour is NOT offered on Fridays.
-- Kate gave this bar a 5 out of 5 at 13:42 12.27.05
Most of the sushi chefs here are as engaging as a block of plywood. Except Steve (from Origami). He's a fantastic chef. I am the kind of sushi chica that feels what's going on behind the sushi bar is also part of the dining experience. That's arguable for some. Food-wise, I've had good experiences there. Their sake menu is very Minnesotan (yeah, I'm from here). Come on! Expand my horizons! For a far better sake selection, try Azia (thou not a sushi joint).
-- Cha Cha gave this bar a 3 out of 5 at 17:11 09.21.05
The drinks are good, the sushi is good, the food is good, just good! There is no dress code no pretentious atmosphere, this is a sushi bar folks run by Japanese people. Sure neon lights, faux decor, and bumping techno seems outrageous for the Midwest, this setup is the standard restaurant in other cities where families go.
-- davumaya gave this bar a 5 out of 5 at 00:43 08.03.05
For me, it's a toss up between Fuji-Ya and Origami but they are both awesome and I like the atmosphere of Fuji-Ya better. Having a small gathering in one of the private rooms is lovely and they treat you well and pay you fabulous attention. I will go back again and again and again...
-- Sip's Gal gave this bar a 5 out of 5 at 15:22 07.29.05
This is a great place to get sushi. The sunday specials are worth going for. Try the mussels. Don't forget to eat the shrimp heads when ordering ama ebi...mmmm shrimp heads.
-- MPLS_Hitman gave this bar a 5 out of 5 at 22:46 07.20.05
Fantastic salmon skin and dynamite rolls much cheaper than you think. An interesting diner feel with the sushi and drink bars facing off in the front room. The bartender gave me a pack of cigarettes (when we could all smoke in Minnneapolis) when I was being mooched by a friend. I love it.

My first time here I sat at the sushi bar during happy hour... now I come just about every Sunday night for the DJ and cheap sushi & drinks. Well worth it!!
-- Red gave this bar a 5 out of 5 at 13:55 06.02.05
I used to drive to Iowa to get fresh fish, and now all I need to do is fight traffic from anoka to get into uptown for a fresh slice of something other than perch! I love the wasabi stuff!
-- frederick gave this bar a 4 out of 5 at 00:34 04.01.05
Any sushi and the wasabi shumai ... you will not be disappointed
