Love Stub and Herbs! Its a great beer bar, featuring a bunch of beers you can't really get on campus other than here. The only place that comes close is the Nomad Pub, but then you have to cross the bridge and no food there. Stubs = good food too.

This was the first bar I went to when I turned 21 and it was a lot of fun. I was a little hesitant to celebrate my birthday on campus because I can't stand bros and crowded bars, but I didn't have to deal with any of that. The bartender was incredibly friendly and gave me a free beer even though my birthday was on a Friday (not expected at all). The beer list is extensive and they have a decent TV set-up so I could watch the hockey game. I'll definitely be back!

this cocktail and dining emporium is one of the best bars in the twins cities, and one of the only places around campus that isn't packed with frat boys slamming jag bombs. cheers!

This is a note to Joel who commented below. Hiring a interesting and diverse staff is something I am proud of. I also try and operate a nice place for nice people to hang out in. Minneapolis is a diverse city. It is an accommodating and accepting city. If being around a "fruitcake" is something worth mentioning to you (I might add in an anonymous/spineless way). Stub and Herbs is a decent place. I've been going there since the late '90s and miss all the sports memorabilia on the walls. The beer is good, food is alright, and atmosphere is great. The slightly different menus for game days is somewhat disappointing however.

Beware of parking...they hire a guy to sit in the parking ramp and watch. They towed a guy who walked across the street after eating lunch. Hooked me up within minutes of walking into Bonos a resterraunt that shares the parking space. I was told the christmas tree cover the signs that differentiate parking areas. I geuss they can't make it on food and liquor so are falling back on parking fees...they had 4 vehicles on the ropes in my 15 minutes.

I love my Stub's. The bartenders are all great guys--really knowledgeable, with good taste in beer. And the waitresses are very friendly. I'm in the process of becoming a regular here and have brought most of my friends out at various times. Fantastic beer selection--best I've seen in town. Everything is priced right, no matter what you're getting. The food is great and is served in large portions for low prices. And no pi**-water beer! Kudo's to John and the crew! Come on down and tell your friends! The ones with the best taste will keep coming back.

Best beer selection in Minneapolis! Selection NEVER gets time to get old and it's ALWAYS good. I've found the waitresses don't know as much as the bartenders; sitting at the bar is a must. Not a "college bar" feel; more welcoming and cozy. Two thumbs up!

OK place, but wildly overrated. They might have put some money into it, but that just makes me wonder how awful it must have been beforehand. Tap selection is very good, but most of the really desirable beers are not available at happy hour prices (same with the appetizers). This would be an OK spot if you're not used to better, but there are many nicer places to drink good beer in the TC area.

I never went into this place until after the new owners took over but I can say that it is my favorite bar around the U hands down. The food is classic bar food done right and the beer selection is just amazing and well priced. I love coming early for lunch or an early dinner during their generously timed happy hour but the place is also great later at night. Great music, atmosphere, and prices. What more could you ask for?

Best beer line up in the city! 32 taps of quality craft beer and not a single Anheuser-Busch, Miller or Coors product, not even Blue Moon, you have to love it!

They have an excellent selection of micro and local taps, and are helpful when you want to try a new thing. Bartender gave me a sample of one I was interested AND a sample of one he thought was better, and I ended up going with the second. Food's pretty solid, but go for the cheap and amazing taps-- best days are Tuesdays (for trying new taps for only $2.50) and Wednesdays (for buying unbelievably cheap pitchers of your new favorites). Shots are inventive, but seem expensive to me (about $4, which is not terrible if you're looking for an interesting flavor combination rather than much of a drink), so I usually pass. Rarely has this place felt like a "college bar," but be prepared for random party buses to pop by and screechy 21 year olds to take over.

OK. I understand that this is a college bar with college age staff and customers. Despite this, the beer selection is one of the best in the cities for speciality taps and micro brews. Say what you want, but the prices are right and the beer is ggod. It's worth a first or second chance.

SO much better than every other campus bar! Not a meat market like SAlly's, and they play good music and have good drink specials. Definitely not a club-like place, but definitely the best place on campus to just hang out with your friends. The staff is more attractive than most other bars, too.

Must be new ownership here because the place was cleaned up and the tap beer selection now rivals any bar in the Twin Cities, inc. the Bulldogs, Gnome, Mud Pig, etc. Great taps, decent staff, and a good pre-game spot. MUCH better than it used to be. Will be a massive hit when the new on-campus football stadium opens in Fall 2009!

Oh Sturbs... I have lots of good memories here. This place can be really fun. There is a huge list of shots so it is a good birthday place. Good beer selection. If you are looking for a low key place to hang out with your friends, this is the place. It usually isn't too crowded here and you avoid many of the tool-y people that you see at other campus bars (the library, sallys).

If you love beer, you belong at Stubs-- best tap selection in the area by far. An excellent staff is always ready to please, the food is excellent, and it's almost always happy hour. If you're looking for a great place on the U of M campus and don't want to deal with the prices or crowds of Sally's, the Library or Blarney, Sterbs is absolutely your place!

Best tap selection in the area for crafts and micros, a real beer lovers heaven. The staff is second to none with a really friendly atmosphere. The foods not too shabby and it's always on the reasonably cheap side. Don't worry about prices because it's almost always happy hour and next to Sally's it feels like you walked into a half off haven. All in all you can't go wrong with good ol' Sterbs.

I was pleasently surprised when I saw Stub and Herbs had a great drink special since I knew the ownership had changed and I had not been there since. When I walked in I was happy about the updated inside. This was the peak of the sorry 45 minutes I spent there. One of my two friends ordered a martini which was incorrectly mixed. The bartender (apparently manager) refused to refund it because we knew what was in the shot and refused that the quanities of the liquors mattered. We decided to wait till after the 'game time' which extended a full two hours after it had ended for the cheap drink special. Ordering a set of shots we found out that although the special only specified 'no patron belvedere or grey goose' that actually included any energy drink mixers. Two other shots were chosen that fit the $3 special (per the waitress) and we took them and asked for the bill. The shots were rung up at full price and the waitress told us that she was sorry but she was wrong and we need to pay full price even though we clearly changed our shot to accommodate the special, additionally she mentioned that if we shorted her she would have to pay for the tab herself. Sorry Kelsie. I think the back of the bill should make you feel a little better when handing it to your manager, "Eat A Dick".

If you're a beer lover, there's no better place for great beer at dirt cheap prices. Stub's has a great tap selection with unbeatable drink prices. It's been cleaned up and food is decent (and fairly cheap).

I went here for the first time about a week ago. I had heard from some friends how cool it used to be and how it had slid off and now one goes anymore but it was cool. REALLY COOL. we had a great time. the staff was great the food wasnt rediculosly great but i didnt get sick and it was as good as it needed to be. i suggest all the nay sayers give it another try. I liked it but its the kinda place thats way cooler packed with people. GO TO STERBS!!!!

Great bar, great employees. Love this bar, 28 taps and the standard is not miller lite like most college bars. If you want good beer and bartenders that know their beer this is the place to be. A beer drinkers paradise.

"Sturb's" is frustrating. This used to be THE bar for U students living in Stadium Village. Not only was the beer selection top rate (thankfully, it remains quite solid), but the food was fantastic. I don't know what happened, but these days I wouldn't even offer the "food" served there to a four-legged beast. A shocking fall from grace for this once proud U staple. To current ownership: for the love of God, PLEASE PLEASE sell to new ownership!

Horrible Service, dirty dinning area, and crazy owner. Servers make you feel like you are a innconvience to them, and the owner hates college students. Flushing your cash down the toliet in the dirty bathrooms is more fun than this place.

Disagreement with Erick. Its true the food used to be better, but don't you think you're being harsh? Stub's actually tries hard to distinguish itself in Stadium Village, a great spot for the areas chiller, grad student, and distinguished (relative-area term) drinkers

Haven't been there in a while-what happened to the food? We remember when the sandwiches were great. The grilled turkey sandwich was just lunchmeat and the Guiness stew was equally inedible. The Chicago hotdog was a scrawny, generic weiner. Absolutely no flavor or texture. We tried one bite and left the rest on the table. Once the waitress dropped off our food, she never checked in with us to see how everything was. Didn't smile once, no chit chat or feeling she was glad that we were there and it wasn't even very busy. Had to order a pretzel just to have something to go with the beer. Did enjoy the Victory sampler and the ambience but too bad the food has gone downhill. Really disappointing.

This bar has the friendliest service, and awsome atmosphere, lots of things to do and great specials...i never have to worry about waiting hours for my drink and the food is terrific as well...i never have to spend much money because of all the great deals on food and booze( except to tip the great bartenders/servers...)the patio is awesome in the summer and they have live music sometimes too! I thnk that everyone should check it out...it may not be the cleanest place in the world but its alot of fun!

Stub and Herbs has the best beer selection on the U of M campus and even better than a lot of the bars downtown. You can find microbrews such as Lefthand Sawtooth, Surly, Bells, Victory, and others. If you are tired of cheap domestics, check out the selection at Stub and Herbs.

I've been going to Stubs a lot lately, and I have to say the staff is hot. They could all be pulled from the pages of an Abercrombie catalogue. They're pretty friendly too. I've seen some negative comments on here, about the service and all that, but I think the people who say the service sucks have just been unlucky. I've been there with friends on nights when it is usually dead, and then all of a sudden a huge group of people will come in for no apparent reason other than to drink and be obnoxious. So, to all those people writing comments about bad service: chill out. Sometimes restuarants get really busy. The service industry can be unpredictable sometimes. All in all this is a great neighborhood/college bar.

Typical college bar at night, BUT a great place for any adult for lunch. I eat there often and the food is consistent, service ranges from average to very good, prices are OK. If you are over 25, avoid at night but it is the best burger joint in the 'hood for lunch.

Stubs is a great place for 25oz mugs of beer, cheese curds, and trivia...the manager on a mission is the biggest turnoff to me. I have frequented the bar before and after the smoking ban - the crowd is the same. Get used to it...everyone is moving toward smoking bans, the chances of reversing it in Minneapolis are slim to none. Save your money and stop taking out cheesy 'Smoking Bans Hurt Everyone' ads in the City Pages.

This is just kind of a jock/frat bar on the weekends without the good specials. If you happen to walk past, go right in. But if you have to travel further than, say, 4 blocks, make it a worthwhile trip and go somewhere better.

Great place to knock back some beers -especially since they expanded the tap list. NTN trivia at this bar offers some of the best competition in town (DJRC is, of course, a drunken loser). Food is typical bar fare with no real standout items. It's the best East Bank bar, a true campus stalwart.

Best campus bar. Biggest tap selection, over 50 drinks and martinis, and a 101 shot list. The bartenders are actually knowledgable about alcohol and can recommend something aside from the daily special. Speaking of, specials are awesome, and the entertainment is worth checking out. People complain about the parking lot, when in fact it is the only campus bar with one. Be mindful of where you park and you won't need to worry about being booted. Overall, a bar that's what you make of it, chill or crazy.

I don't know the deal either? this is the best campus bar, LTP is also nice, but a bit far out... Its got good music and taps, the crowd is also really mixed and usually regulars, but fun and nice.

I don't know what the bitching is about. These guys have a big tap selection, shot lists, mixed drinks, and anything you can come up with. Music thrs-sat nites. Games suck--but that's because EVERYONE goes there 20 minutes before the game--people are dumb sometimes.

Been coming to this bar for 12 years and it rarely changes. Bar owner is cheap and does not make repairs as needed. Menu never changes except to re-name an item after the person is in a scandal or leaves. Only seen her spend money twice. Once to enclose patio, and now with smoking ban, she had to make a new patio for smoking. AVOID during gopher events.

This place is alright, foods pretty good, specials are even better. Less crowded than Sally's. Parking is free in back lot if you park in the place marked with Stub & Herb's signs. Stupid people get booted for parking in the wrong areas.

Good only for their 1/2 price apps. Their mountain of cheese curds and NTN trivia is the only thing that keeps me coming back because the service at the bar is awful and the place does smell of puke when you first walk in.

I walked into this bar at lunchtime one time and the whole place smelled like puke. We asked the bartender what the deal was and he said some kids puked in the entryway the night before. What a shithole. I know it's a college bar and all, but a college bar needs to be prepared for these types of eventualities.

Stubs is a great bar. The staff and managament are very friendly and quick to serve you a drink or some food ( I reccomend the quesdillas)

This is a true gentlemen's bar, no stupid gimmicks or other crap, just good beer and good company. If you want a REAL bar with a lot of history, this is the bar for you.

A great bar, and great times. It's a wonderful place to go and have a few drinks with friends. The ownership and staff are top notch. The addition of live music has made the place even better.

Stub and Herbs is an alright local bar. The shot menu they have is pretty key if you're going all out, but it lacks the atmosphere a lot of people enjoy.

Stubs is a good place for someplace close to home (if you live there), but its nothing too special. They do have really good drinks and specialties though. I went there for trucker night and had a sixpack of PBR for a 10 spot inc. tip. not bad...
