Finally, a place that is great to study at, hang-out, chow on EXCELLENT food, and listen to jazz. This is not really a bar, but more of a quaint restaurant in the heart of Dinkytown. Kafe 421 has a lot of history and is in the location of the old Bon Appetite, where Bob Dylan used to play open mic nights back in the day. You would never know that to look at this place though, the decor is pleasant and comfortable. They also have a few seats outside for the summer. Food prices are moderate, and worth the price. It's worth a visit for a nice dining experience, especially on Monday and Wednesday for the 1/2 priced wine.

i recently went to the loring pasta bar and was disappointed and disgusted. in contrast i went to kafe 421 last weekend and it was soooo nice. the staff was friendly and competent, the food was very good, and not overpriced. i was very satisfied. the only thing i would say is that its too bad the patio isn't bigger. i felt like i was sitting in a booth with the stranger next to me, kind of awkward...

I stumbled on this place in late July during the hot spell after I realized that the Loring Pasta Bar did not have air conditioning! I walked in and was immediately greated by this incredibly upbeat lovely chick. she treated me like I was visiting her homne...I love that kind of hospitality! I had a few glasses of wine and the Lamb Sandwich. Very tasty. Equally so for my lunch the next day. I have been bragging this place up ever since! My birthday is coming up and I get to choose the place, I can't think of any where else I'd like to dine on my special day! An absolute perfect place. The prices are right, excellent wine selection and very cool music. I Love it!

One of my faves in Mpls and I've been to alot of them. The service has always been good, though I've never sat in the back. The 1/2 off wine nights are great for a budget and the food is ALWAYS excellent. A hidden gem in a neighborhood of college ruffians.

Georgia is a lovely lady and this Greek goddess has created a pillar of food in Dinkytown. if anything if you don't know kafe 421, you don't know Dinkytown anymore. the most elegant food at just below your frown prices with a changing menu that delivers you fresh tomato, seafood, steak, and potatoes the way people in the Old World know food best. but beware of the not-so-with-it server, ask for the front seating area at all costs.
