The Blue Nile is a huge complex and offers multiple African decorated rooms and an outdoor patio. It is not your typical Minneapolis bar; it’s an Ethiopian Restaurant that features live music pretty much every night that starts around 10pm. On the weekends DJ's play in the basement and it is more open for dancing (Monday= Hip-Hop, Tues. = open, Wed. = jazz, Thrus. = Reggae, Friday = African, Sat. = Live). There is usually an $8-10 cover starting mid-week and through the weekend. Most try the sampler platter which lets you try a bunch of different Ethiopian foods. Their tap beers are extensive and include: Stella Artois, New Castle, Sam Adams, Bells, and more.

absolutely delicious. the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about both the food and drink. the beer selection is wonderful and the main bartender truly is a beer advocate. i highly suggest going!

Genuine, knowledgeable service. Good product (both booze and food). Friendly, conversational patrons and staff. Often, quite good music. Downside: music is too loud for any live group, nearly all the time. While the bar and restaurant are functionally fantastic, the place has a strange incomplete sort of feel that is hard to place.

Come now Pretentious Hipsters, get off your high horses about the "less than uptown" atmosphere at the Blue Nile. If you're looking for ass kissing service and corporate beer taps then this place is probably not going to suit your fancy. I found the food to be excellent, the employees genuine, and the ambiance delightfully jazzy.
