Linked in the same building with the Warehouse Nightclub, The American is home to many blue-collar regulars and young college students. Their biggest draw is typically Wednesday night when they have "Ladies Night," which is frequented by a majority of lesbians and beer guzzling neighborhood lackeys. That, in combination with their incredible specials, makes me wonder how they can ever stay in business, its down right the best deal in the city. It must because it’s almost always packed from 3pm until close every night.

This is where locals can go to get out of the blinding sunlight and sip their cocktails, smoke, and watch big screen TV in a dark, drunken, haze. Despite everything, the towny bar atmosphere will really grow on you and it is always a good time. Plus, they have a nice shuffle board (and if you don't keep score on the machine, you can get multiple games for your quarters)

THRIFTY TIP- Free parking lot and $2.00 25oz. mugs of High Life all the time. The American also has great food specials for $6 every day from 6-10.

and the American is closed. Good riddance. Ever since the new management took over last fall it sucked hardcore anyways.

It won't let me put in a direct link, but google for "St Paul City Council Meetings" and go to the 5/7/08 public hearing meeting. Scroll down to resolution 53, click the link, and watch the video before you eat here. The St. Paul City Council, on 5/7/08, revoked this place's restaurant license for MANY MANY MANY food code violations. Ick. I am sure the mouse droppings add delicious flavor to the pizza and burgers.

This place is what it is, a dark, sketch place to get drunk. The only reason I ever go there is for Wednesday beer and pizza. $4.99 unlimited beer and pizza from 5-8pm. The pizza is not bad, some interesting flavors like cheesburger with hamburger, pickles, and mustard. The beer is cheap, but the portions are what bring you in, if you are looking to binge eat and guzzle beer. Its fun to go there with a group of people. One of the servers was a huge bitch, she didn't seem to know what she was doing and was really rude. Also, there was a huge fat man sitting at the bar and in less than two hours he probably ate an entire pizza by himself, no joke!

I used to go there for a long time. I knew Ryan(Hollywood) and Nate. Both very good guys. Then one day Nate no longer worked there. It used to be kind of a drug bar, but the last yr or so, it has changed alot. The last time I was there, I had a great burger and fries (that I couldn't finish) but my man Ryan wasn't working. This summer there blew. The locals, make it the place to be. You have to watch out for the bathrooms though!!! Comeback Hollywood!!!
