The Wild Onion is a popular place on Grand Avenue and is frequented by a lot of the St. Thomas crowd. They have a large bar, big booths, and a small dancefloor. The inside is dim, and the walls are lined with bright portrait paintings. The Wild Onion hosts dancing (Top 40) and drinking on the weekends. They utilize the concept of large portions, decent prices, and lends to a long night of over-consumption. The Wild Onion is a pretty safe bet for any night out in St. Paul if you are looking for large crowds. Note: Weekend nights sometimes include a cover charge.

THRIFTY TIP- Get a buy-one get one free during your birthday week (wed). If you come on your birthday, get a free drink and a t-shirt.

The Wild Onion gets too much flack. It turns into a dueche-y danceclub around 9, gradually... you can hardly see it coming. But it has GREAT food (try the burgers or Quesa-cornucopia, i.m.o.) , a killer, cheap, bloody mary bar/mimosa special on the weekends, along with delicious breakfast. It's a really good, comfy sports bar with GREAT service, a bunch of TVs and a lot of specials, just get out by 9pm... vampires.

I have been frequenting The Wild Onion evere since my days at St. Thomas. I still enjoy going there for lunch/ happy hour to see the friendly staff ( especially Anne the bartender,) but have noticed the food keeps getting worse and worse! Some of their new happy hour app specials are edible, but everything that used to make the full menu what it is is no longer available. I was there for lunch the other day and found small pieces of bones in the chicken in my salad, When i asked the friendly but clueless server about it, she informed me that due to the "higher quality chicken" that the kitchen now uses bone pieces should be expected. Ok, I was a waitress back in the day and know that these poor servers are only doing what there management asks of them, but what kind of excuse is that? The same server then told me that we should try all of the new things on the menu, which my friends and I did on other visits. All I can say is about any thing on the menu that was added in the past few months is: DRY, WAY TOO SALTY, UNDIBLE, WITH BONES (did I aready say that), and did I mention horrible? When we asked the server for simple ommintenences or substitutions in our dishes, she informed us that no substitutions were allowed. From what I've heard, this bar has lost a lot of lunch/happy hour customers due to the new HORRIBLE FOOD! It's too bad since there are great bartenders, okay servers (who seem to turn over weekly,) and a fun atmosphere.

Pretty good service, and decent food. I'll echo the cover issue, why?! Rich kids from St. Thomas flock here, on the typical nights. If that's not for you, stay away.

Wow, this place really knows how to do Birthday's right. Went there last night (tues.) and they had live music playing during happy hour until 9 pm with cheap drinks until then. Then the d.j. started up and before we knew it there were college aged kids all over the place celebrating their birthdays. Great service, louder but fun atmosphere, and good food.

Lame place "to be seen" Terrible service, cover charge on weekends (for what??) and overpriced. For the yuppies and frat boys. Hopefully they grow out of this scene someday.
