The Turf Club is easily one of the best places to catch live music. Why? It’s certainly not the sound quality or the décor, but rather the intimacy and energy that the live music seems to generate here on a nightly basis. We’ve never met a mean or stuck-up snob here. Even nights with low attendance are fun. Head downstairs and chill in the “Clown Lounge, a 70’s style lounge area decked with scary clown statues and circus posters. The best part about the Turf Club is the low cover charges, usually between $2-10, but usually closer to $2. Just try to get there early for popular shows, the Turf Club fills up quickly and lines quickly form outside the door. The interior houses a long bar along the side, a scary rock club bathroom, large booths along the other side, and tables in the back middle (with a small dance floor up front). It is a true rock club and is dark, dingy, and surprisingly inviting. If you aren’t too into the music they also have a few pinball machines and pool tables to pass the time. The walls and stage are lined in Christmas tree lights and a thick smokey haze forms from a combination of chain smoking and low ceilings. We recommend the Turf Club for any night that you want to go and see live, loud, and fun music. Take the Snelling Avenue exit off Interstate 94 and head a few blocks north. The Turf club is located right in the heart of Midway in St. Paul. PARKING- is easily found off street or late night on University.

this is the only bar to go to in st. paul. that is, if you don't like the douchy-frat-kid atmosphere of the bars on Grand. All the bartenders are great, the atmosphere is laid back, and the clown lounge is the subterranean icing on the cake. The Turf Club could kick "Gabes" ass any day in my book. Cheers!

If you find the smell of stale beer and vomit to be charming, then this is your place. The only thing the Turd Club has going for it is the lack of other St Paul music venues. Amateur noise bands outnumber the decent talent 10 to 1.

decent place with good music and a fun oldschool photobooth... but the last few times I've been, the beer on tap was very weak. I asked for another pour, and got a really rude response from the bartender. the beer tasted like water.

i usually have a decent time here. one time at bar close a girl that had smoked me up asked if "this was going to happen". I appreciated her straight-forwardness.

Close-minded cliquish booking staff. If your trying to make inroads in the local music scene, don't bother with this place because they just want to hear themselves and the million variation of bands of the same 30 people play for each other ad nauseam.
