Ate at La Cucharacha once -- HUGE mistake! God, this place is an insult to Mexican food... If you're looking awesome Mexican, check out Boca Chica (on the West Side). Amazing food, a great patio that's open during the warmer months, and they actually give out free chips and salsa!

Had dinner at LC this summer. Ordered a beer and a mojito for my friend. After having the fresh mint mojitos at Barley John's these mojitos were horrible... especially for the price ($6+.) The food was subpar... the service was NON-EXISTENT. The only thing slower than the kitchen was our server and beyond the frustration of slow service was having to repeat our orders. Horrible experience, but my friend had fond memories of the place before the new ownership / management... back when you got free chips and salsa at your table... not for $6!

AMAZING FOOD! The best burritos I've ever tasted and they were the BIGGEST portions I have ever eaten. Just great food. & the service? Outstanding. Hands down. The bartender guy..? HOT HOT HOT.

Terrible service, bone in my chicken, and got sick from the food later. This has happened twice and I will not be returning.

Honestly not impressed, the guacamole was way too salty as was the dish I ordered, shredded beef tacos. Shared the 1/2 gallon margheritas; which was primarily margherita mix. The service was fine but based on the food, will not visit again.

This place is honestly the best local mexican food! It is reasonably priced, the margaritas and sangria are delicious, and the staff is very friendly!

La Cuc was Sickly-GOOD, it was definitely a WOW! And yes indeed, I just got home to my apartment which I share with a good bunch, anyway, I still hid my leftovers behind some moldy chili!!! I would suggest the same, this place does Mexican done RIGHT!

Oh my friggin' lord- this place is amazing. I've been twice and the food has been great, service was good. first i order the "chicken ole-mole" it was great, sweet and spicy, such a comfort food, also ordered a picher of fresh-made sangria whick kicked!!! next time i ordered a custom made tostada/greek/chicken order with a side of their killer mole sauce and damn, they done it again, this time my datand i took in a nice bucket of beers which was not a bad price at all, negro modelo and pacifico's, we were evenable to mix and match the bucket o' beersss. i totally vouch for the roach, the best mexican in the twin cities yo. I HEART THE ROACH. and to all you roach haters.... ....please.

Terrible. I ordered guacamole tostadas. When I have had this at other restaurants, this usually includes some refried beans, cheese, guacamole, and lettuce. Nope, not here. Just guacmole spread on a tostada shell with some lettuce. It cost $10. I was not happy. It wasn't even good guacamole, it tasted like that packaged stuff you can get at the grocery store. I ordered a side of refried beans to add to it, and those were slimy. My boyfriend was also disappointed in his fish tacos. The margaritas were fine. I won't be going back. Where can I find some good, reasonably priced Mexican food in this town?

Ok, if the food at la cuc is good, then where the hell do you yocals go for good mexican....taco bell? One of the best in the city says me and most of my friends.

This was our weekly Friday happy hour because of the free food in the bar...but sadly they stopped the food and now they only have $3 taps which isn't really a deal at all

This restaurant does need some help. The food is good, not great, but that's all that they can offer. Service, for my party, was well below average, atmostphere was blah, and prices were average. For a location like this, they could thrive with a little ole. Too bad.

We arrived around 1:00 PM and enjoyed a late lunch here. The restaurant was almost empty and the service was very good. We ordered a large guacamole dip and nachos which were delicious and the portion was very large. I ordered cheese enchiladas and I enjoyed them very much. My companion had a fish sandwich with fries, which he said was of average quality. Overall, we enjoyed our experience here. http://jspjbb.blogspot.com

In its day this was about the best Mexican and best pitcher of Margaritas place in Saint Paul. It is now well past its prime. The food is bland and just about any Mexican restaurant down in South Saint Paul across the river is better. Stay away to avoid disappointment.

The service is HORRIBLE! It took us forever to get our food, and to make matters worse the meal could barely be considered mediocre. I agree with the comment our the low level of authenticity....Taco Bell one ups this place.

Good food--yes it's a bit Tex Mex, but you know you love it, super friendly servers--i love it when they call me mi ha, and awesome margaritas.

Reviewer needs to get out more. Drive down Lake street sometime. There are too many Mexican restaurants to count (Or Nicollet, Or Concord, Or University). Nearly all of them are more authentic and better than La Cuc. If he/she thinks this is authentic Mexican food I can only conclude they are a shmo.

The ratings on this site are very misleading. Primarily because of the idiots doing the rating. Bob- What do you really expect for a meal that is priced between 8 and 12 dollars? And how do you "poorly" steam a tortilla? You are an idiot. Stubcat- Pull your head out of your ass and list all the "authentic" Mex restaurants in the area. I've lived here for several years and can name about 4 GOOD AUTHENTIC mexican places. La Cuc is one of them. g.b.- You are basically rating the web site, not the restaurant. What is wrong with you? Warning: the happy hour here is NOT 2-4-1 margaritas, its just $1 off. And the free taco/nacho/wings buffet? Mini corndogs, chips+salsa, and wings. I trusted this site, and was disappointed with the discrepancies. Everything was pretty good, though. Just note that the happy hour is listed wrong!

Lame place that has had its day. It was fine when it had scant competition but now there are so many far better authentic Mexican places to choose from. Mediocre food at high price. Such a deal.

Not my fave spot for drinking, beer-same old, but food is really yummy! Comfy, fun, atmosphere.

Go for lunch and you'll have a great time. Just a tad more expensive than El Loro on Yankee Doodle and Pilot Knob but still good. You can drive over from downtown St. Paul, have lunch and be back before the hours up.

Back when MN was still mostly Scandinavian, La Cuc was the best place to taste real Mexican food. I even liked La Cuc when it was in downtown Mpls. Decent, simple margaritas and home cooking, and a very tasty mole' too. Smells like SoCal to me!

Our appetizer was mostly bean paste - enough to fill 6 to 8 small tortillas, colby cheese, and a flattened dollop of chorizo to taste. With the bean dip and tossed to the side a foil package containing 3 small poorly steamed tortillas. One does not expect to pay the exorbitant prices for mediocre mostly bean filled dishes with a couple of small poorly steamed tortillas and when requested a couple more tortillas were charged extra. Your restaurant is exactly what your name implies; a cockroach and we know what that implies. And we know how appetizing that is. Not thrifty. A bean dip appetizer serving 4 to 6 includes 3 small tortillas. It will cost you $1.25 for 3 more poorly steamed tortillas.
