Half Time Rec is an authentic Minnesotan-Irish bar for all ages. Recently undergoing a facelift (winter ’06), Half Time now features lots of live Rock AND Irish bands, including “Tony Sims and “The Irish Brigade, but also many others. An extensive beer list and neighborly friendly service are a few of the reasons to check out the Halftime.

In the basement, you can play bocce ball, but you also have the option of billiards, Golden T, and more.

Reading some of the comments are really funny! Does anyone really think that Lou changed from Irish because of his "wife"? Really? She's IRISH! Country, Rock, Irish, Whatever it is... People just want to believe what others tell them without going to the source for the facts... Who knows, maybe Irish IS coming back... If not the Country is a nice addition.

The switch to Country is fine. The place is - as it always was - festive as all get out. Cool as hell.

Since I live right by the Half Time Rec, it is my neighborhood bar. Yes, Lou recently changed it over to a Country bar (not happy with that), but the drinks are still really strong (especially if Jimmy is working); they still do bocce ball leagues on T/Th and Cajun nights on Sundays. They do have food - but it's very limited. Pizzas during league nights; and the guy who brings in awesome tacos too. The crowds are still friendly and fun--and it's still a good place to hear live music.

The one star is simply for their recent decision to change the place over to a country bar. I use to love St. Paul specifically for the traditional Irish music there. Bands like the Irish Brigade are a welcome relief from pseudo-Irish bands like the Wild Colonial Bhoys - now there will be no venue left for them, unless Kieran's and the Dubliner get smart and start booking them for regular shows.
