Fuji Ya St. Paul is very similar to their sushi restaurant in Uptown. The layout is open and social in the lounge, full of high top tables, 10 seats at the sushi bar, and a small bar area. This is usually pretty packed and happening for the weekday happy hour and for dinner on the weekends, where it is packed with St. Paul young professionals in their 20s-30s. The background mix is hip, featuring downtempo and electro mixes, but Fuji Ya also plays a mix of jazz on the weekends.
If you want something quieter, Fuji Ya also has a back restaurant, with booth and private area seating. Here you can get the same great sushi as in the lounge or at the sushi bar, but in a more relaxed and private setting. For those really looking for a good time though, hit the sushi bar. You get to interact with the chefs and order the “Omakasi” (“chef’s choice”) sushi to get things not on the menu. Thriftyhipster recommends doing this on Thursday, this is the only day of the week with the master chef on the floor making you rolls, so you’re going to get the best sushi available anywhere! Its definitely the best way to be adventurous! Also try the Malibu Roll, unique to Fuji Ya St. Paul, made with mango and bacon…
Thrifty Tip: Validated parking in the World Trade Center ramp across the street.
