Axle’s Bonfire Grille is an impressive improvement to the Olive Garden that once occupied this space. Axle’s is a regional chain that got its start in the upscale communities in the metro area and is now making its way to the urban centers. It is expanding and growing because it is a great place that offers trendy, southwestern (yet pleasant) décor and very tall ceilings. They also have a huge fireplace that rages in the winters. Despite the size, the Bonfire is very comforting and has excellent lighting and comfortable tables. Axel's has a large bar, but are typically busier for dinner (entrees $8-25).
However, they do draw a night-time crowd on the weekends when they have the 2 full-sized “Dueling Pianos,� going at it live from 10-1:30 Thursday-Saturday nights. Games also get busy due to a large 8’ projection TV.
Music is typically classic rock, but turns into fun, uppity party music at night. Axle’s also does takeout and has 2 large party rooms that have been rented out by large wedding parties and the Minnesota Wild.
