The burgers were great and so were the prices (a star for each.) The service, however, was really bad. Our server brought us one beer and we had to go up to the bar to get the rest. When we tried to play a song on the jukebox, she yelled to the cook to tell "him that the jukebox is broken." There was one other table in there, so I didn't understand why our server was so rude. She also took her lunch break while our table was open; another reason why we had to get our own beer. We tipped her heavily, thinking that she just had a rough/busy night, but, as we went up to receive our bill, she didn't make eye contact or give any response. Good food, questionable service.

been there several times just to make sure and came away believing it's the atmosphere more then the burgers. Great local bar if you appreciate that occassionally, simple beer selection at great prices, good burgers at great prices and will continue to come because it fits a mood and I enjoy nice clean local place's like Matt's !!!

I waited for 15 minutes at the bar for a pitcher. Then I waited another 30 for a burger.

If you don't like Jucy Lucy's (just a great burger), good fries, a good old neighborhood joint (dive) and just grabbing some basic eats with friends or family then don't try this joint. Don't expect a Chino Latino atmosphere but do expect an honest deal and good place. Reminds you of a place your parents or grandparent would have taken you to in the 60's or early 70's. Yea, it's small but it's got charm!

Ignore all the bad comments on this board. Everyone has to experience this bar at least once. If it's not your style, then don't come back. But for this guy, it is my style. Small, homey feel (Like the TV show Cheers). Burgers are great and so are the fries. I use to live in Minneapolis and now live in Shakopee and it's still worth the drive.

This place is a dive. The burgers are overrated and the atmosphere stinks. It's like any other town bar except it has well known burgers. The fries are really good, but I can get good fries at McDonalds.

This is the bar to go to with the boys. To grab a burger and talk about the ladies. Terribly busy after baseball/football games, but as stated before, the burgers are that good.

Why do people love this bar? It is cramped, it smells and it is like every small town bar everywhere in the midwest.

Not the best place to hang, since the place is small & not comfortable. Certainly the best place to get a burger n fries in this neighborhood. They rule & are better than the 5-8 club. Why 4s n 5s you say? The burgers are THAT good.

Best Juicy Lucy's in the known universe. Yes, they are that good. Nice, comfortable atmosphere and happy crowd.

As far as a bar goes, Matt's is fantastic. It's unpretentious and real; neither it's servers nor its customers take it too seriously. It has good beer at good prices and some stand-by bar food.

I love juicy Lucy's and no one does it better than Matt. I no longer live in the state but when I come home to visit Matt's is always a place I have to go before I leave.

Don't go if you expecting to be entertained.. Do go if you want to have a few drinks, and hang out. I love thier fries. The staff has been friendly and will pretty much recognize you if you go more than once. If you are looking for a scene, go somewhere else. Well, actually I did see Slug here once.

We really like this place. The burgers are great (and so are the fries). By far, my favority Jucy Lucy and it's cheap. We typically get things to go - not the best place to hang out and it can get super packed around dinner on the weekends. But if you live in south this is a neihgborhood institution and deserves a visit.

OK,OK - it's a darn good burger, but let's not go crazy here, folks. Making a burger with cheese on the inside is not rocket science.I bet most of you could do this at home with...let's see- ground beef and some cheese! This may be a good cheeseburger at a neighborhood bar, but it is just too simple to be considered great- it's not like their using Kobe beef, or topping the burgers with sun-dried tomato or expensive mushrooms.What's next, a shrine for tatertots? I am not a snob, I'm just saying that if anyone can make these at home in ten minutes, are they really that praiseworthy ? I like to dine-out when I want something that I can't make, or that just wouldn't be cost-effective(like all the ingredients for crab cakes). PS- Better plan on leaving when your burger is done, there is absolutely nothing else to stay for.

Matt's bar is pure midwestern joy. The xmas decorations were amusing. The beer is inexpensive. They sell hamburgers infused with cheese (the juicy lucy). We go weekly. Not only do they NOT have exclusively 3.2 beer, but they have wine, cheese puffs and candy bars for sale in addition to the grill items. Whatever you do, don't arrive close to closing becausee the bartender really likes to get closed up on time and will tell you this with her lovely facial expressions and service. Enjoy!

This is the best place for burgers. I've looked everywhere. If not here, I recommend (believe it or not) Krohna, a hotel bar across from the grand hotel downtown. Anyway, an outoftowner who wants a little local flavor should go here and order a jucy lucy and a pitcher of premo.

Standard Mpls. 3.2 bar with neighborhood regulars. The burgers aren't THAT good, but the fries are great. Don't come here to drink, it's 3.2!

Minimal taps.. Try the Cardinal Bar on Hiawatha/38Th for cheeper pitchers. Staff is always grumpy; which can be amusing. A nice place to socialize with friends. They are known to randomly close very eairly.

I would have to agree, this is one of the most stellar burgers I have tasted. This is no nightclub, but who really looks for a nightclub to serve fantastic burgers? I defiantly would recommend you enjoy one.

Actually it's "Jucy Lucy" - with no i in juicy... Best damn burger around town.. The 5-8 club and Matt's have both claimed to be the originator of these tasty burgers, but Matt's is the true original "Home of the Jucy Lucy". The fires there are stellar also. If you are looking to beat a hangover, nothing will do it like a Jucy Lucy and (huge) basket of fries. Don't come to Matt's for the atmosphere or for people watching - come for the burgers. Word of caution to Jucy Lucy virgins - you have to waith for at least 5 minutes after getting your burger before eating it. If you don't you will burn your mouth/face badly by the hot melted cheese that will ooze out if still too hot.

Juicy Lucy!!!! Need I say more? Perfect place to go if you are looking for one of those, the bar is affordable but not your place to get ripped and hang out in.... Staff is borderline, they are usually crabby....
