Dive Bar/Music Venue, in fact, it was voted "best concert venue 2005" They also have lots of meat raffles.
Really though, you can see a lot of really good shows here and every concert is free, noted for a huge hipster following, the Hexagon is definitely worth checking out.

This place usually has great music and they make some of the best and stiffest drinks in the city. The bathrooms are pretty terrible and the the bar itself smells like b.o.

I like the bartenders and they make a great drink! Fun bar!

Sunday night bartender, It would be nice to think you could rely on ur looks since you suck ass at making a good drink or giving decent service. But u don't even have that going for you! And your shitty attitude makes u even uglier than u already are!

I love!! this bar. Top shelf Drinks at bar rail prices!! Great hipster music venue!! City Pages Rated this bar "Best Concert Venue of 2008" Also NO COVER CHARGE!!! How's That!! Lots of Large Screen TV's and free appetisers during various games!! It has a large sidewalk Cafe out front and is always full during music nights Thursday thru Saturday. You need to get there early on music nights since it is usually packed those nights. The Hex Really Rocks!!! I Love It! Sandy

Just wanted to comment on the new owner who took over the bar in November. He is an unscrupulous D.B. He pushed back employee paychecks without telling anyone. When they finally came he cut wages for a number of employees, again without notice. His goal is to move away from the niche the previous owners found as a successful dive bar environment and make this a football bar. Lame.

Poor sound system. Too many bands on the bill means just as much time watching bands striking their gear as actually watching bands ( not to mention all the gear!)The bottom line is you still pay a price for no cover.

if you're not a middle-aged south minneap alcoholic townie or an ironic moustached, tight t-shirted, tapered jeans, PBR drinking hipster then stay away.

This is our new local hang...the bar is divey and casual, the drinks are super cheap (and damn are they strong) and the patrons and bartenders are friendly. Good bands, too!

I was there once and the bartender charged me for to many things and when I tried to correct him in a nice matter he got mad and started being really rude. When I finally gave in and payed it he gave me to little change back. THIEVES

Great bar, almost always free shows. Beer selection not great.

overrun by hipsters on weekend nights. and left to about 5 regulars in the day. awesome anytime. the GIANT tap summits for 4 bucks are great, but they aren't served at night meaning you must get drunk before 9pm. it's a good place to shoot a couple games of pool during the day, though sometimes i might be the only girl and the only person under 40. questionable jukebox/radio, but usally good live music and always for free. the best bar in the best neighborhood! oh and too bad about the bread dumpster being compactor-ized nextdoor, AL DOG.

So if you like indoor music venues playing at outdoor volumes this is your place! Otherwise you can stand outside and hear the badn at a more comfortable volume!

With the live bands that this place gets (most playing with free admission) and the DJ night on Wed's, I'm happy to leave my NE MPLS comfort zone.

I like music...I like good music...I hate sports bars and white baseball caps. The Hexagon has great music all week (DJ's and bands) with not a creep to be found...except for some of the long-time regulars - but that too is part of the charm.

Goodness gracious, what a horrible place! I used to come here back before the war with my good friend Esther Koppe to enjoy a pink squirrel and meet some nice sailors. Now this place is packed wall to wall with silly junior ad executives with bad haircuts trying to pretend they're dangerous hobos! The bar smells like a litterbox in the fruit cellar...and the music...its just NOISE. Why can't that boy play any nice songs? I tried to leave as fast as I could but that Lloyd Llewellyn slipped me a roofie and now I can't find my underpants...

You know when you were a little kid and you would look in the open door of a dive bar? The smell and the depressing old drunks made you think you never wanted to touch a beer as long as you lived. Well, that's the Hexagon. Their redeeming quality is the service and the music (which along makes it an underappreciated jewel in Minneapolis). For this, it gets four stars. All other factors though, make this one of the crappiest bars in the city that I've been to.

Pull tabs, live bands dim lighting, gritty atmosphere and 75 cents for a game of pool. Also near a sweet dumpster for getting bread.

Great vibe, great music, great scene...all week long!
-- aguynamedjohn gave this bar a 5 out of 5 at 23:03 12.26.05
This place is a pisshole in a wretched neighborhood and always will be. Having bands play there doesn't change the atmosphere. And make sure the wheels of your car are bolted down good or they'll be gone by the time you leave.
-- Lloyd Llewellyn gave this bar a 1 out of 5 at 21:06 12.21.05
This is one sweet bar. It is listed as a dive bar/music venue above, and that is exactly what it is. Usually, two or three nights a week there is live music and there is never a cover. The bands are usually pretty good too, no many creepy guys strait from their basement or anything. Its a chilled out atmosphere with a couple of pool tables and dart boards. They have cheap drinks and they boast the oldest liquor license in Minneapolis. Not checking this bar out would be a mistake.

This place is totally sweet - it's the sort of thing I'd like to see in Uptown. Even though it's described as a "dive" bar above, it's really as nice as your average, not-trendy-downtown bar. Drinks are cheap, (Summit on tap $2.75, always) the music is good and in your face (and the sound is incredible), and the crowd is a fun mix of cool 20ish people and older drinkin' types. Comes complete with a surly old man bouncer. Find a good local act, and come see it here (I saw Mark Mallman with Vicious Vicious - for free)
