Well I would have given the cardinal 4 or 5 stars... that is if I didn’t have to wait nearly 30 minutes after I finished my burger and beer to get my tab... I normally wouldn’t care if the place was busy but it wasn’t and the server walked passed my table 4 times, that’s 4 times, conveniently turning the other way every time I tried to motion to him. I am very easy person to please but come on. Since we were very happy people, cracking jokes with the server, there had to be one reason for our shitty service. Since we were not like the rest of the customers we were treated as shit. I will not be coming back and would suggest if you’re not a women who likes other women, stay away. You service will suck and that’s the only thing that sucks here. Everything else licks! Sorry, won’t be coming back. I bet you’re happy.

Friendly and timely service!! I particulaly like the Bufalo Chicken Breast sandwich on rye. Tasty and affordable!! Great to see Steve back!! He and Gabe could be their own comedy routine!!

This is a great neighborhood bar. It is cheap and has a little patio. The staff there has been more then kind to me every time I have been there. They also have descent beer on tap!

I have to agree the guy of foreign decent is a complete ass....if he was my only dealing with this establishment..I probably wouldn't go back. If management is reading these..they probably should consider giving AKMAD the boot. Everything else about this bar is primo..but you don't want one bad egg..to be giving your place bad marks.

I see someone put the guy working was an ass....if it is the guy that is of foreign decent...he was a total ass to me last time too...I have been a neighborhood regular for years. I don't go there very often anymore..just because I don't do the bar scene as much as I did in my younger days..but those kind of people should not be in the bartender profession. I'm still giving it 5 stars..because other than that..I love the bar!

Casual neighborhood bar. Burger & fries for $5! Our server brought us a free pitcher last time (& we aren't regulars), which was sweeet.

Cool place. Reminds me of a small bar in Northern MN. Burgers - awesome. Fries - the fat kind. Fun staff. Darts and pool. Mr. J is right about the blonde waitress - she is a sweet-heart but forgets everything. It just adds to the charm for me.

The Cardinal Bar is very cozy, warm bar, the staff is fast and friendly, we love the Cardinal! The burgers are some of the best I have ever eaten!

The Cardinal has been a staple in South Minneapolis for years...WHY??..because the owners and staff got it right the first time. Some establishments may come and go...but the good classic ones are here for good...just like classic rock! The food is good, the beer is always cold and the people are real. If you don't like it...then leave...we won't miss you.

I love the Cardinal and yes that may be because I live so close. The burgers are fantastic and for a smaller bar they usually have great beers on tap. GO STELLA. The people who work there are kind and fast.

I've been going to the Cardinal for 10 years. It's a family-owned neighborhood bar. The burgers are cheap and better than Matt's. If you want to spend a lot of money and watch phony people--this is not the place for you. The regulars are working-class people, and some of them are real characters! It's strong beer and cheap wine only, no booze. You won't find the idiot "shot" crowd here, and suprisingly, I've never seen a fight there. It's very family friendly over the supper hour, there's a kid's menu. We had an office gathering there once (the 38th rail station is right there) and everyone had a great time.

Total trash (white AND black). Absolutely nothing special... Unless you live within a few blocks and can walk to this place(attn: probationers)don't bother.

The Cardinal is cheap. That's its redeeming quality. Otherwise, it's a dive bar full of locals that isn't worth driving across town for. When people say other bars are "pretentious," what I think they mean is there's a ton of other dive bars just like this in South Mpls. and there's no drawing point.

When I walk in the first words I hear from the Bartender are F U. Cheap & good food and beer, avoid the drunks at the bar. I stop by once in awhile after light rail otherwise not a place I head too.

For anyone who is sick of pretentious, over-priced burgers anywhere else in Mpls, this is a great place to go. The burgers are THE BEST. We went there for the Sat night karaoke and had a blast, even the waitress sang! I love the place for a laid back, cheap evening.

I dig the Cardinal. Yes, it lacks pretention, etc., but, primarily, the food is good and it is well-managed. The short-order cook, Chuck, is a nice guy who used to cook ribs and steaks and knows what he's doing.

To all those that hat on the Card. Try going to a real wisky tango bar like the scooner or popeyes. You have know idea what a wt bar is if you think this place is "WT" "dirty" or "depressing". So get real, your not real drinkers and you are not hipsters, so go blow a goat.

I dont know what dropitlikeitshot is talking about. They don't sell liqour. Only wine in airplane bottles and beer. It is white trash. I have heard the "lady" staff there threaten to beat up the men patrons and actually come out from behind the bar. Better than the CC Club though and all of their pretentious, fake pseudo punks that all group up in Wayzata.

I'm not super hard to please and this is a depressing, biker/trailer trash bar. bartender was a total prick also. i'd rather go anywhere else.cheap but so what? i lot of places are cheap! i guess some people like that the staff has the "screw you" attitude towards customers, but i found it annoying and rude. this place is disgusting!! if you have any kind of class, you don't belong here.

The Cardinal Bar is refreshing for being real. The kind of bar your grandfather went to. The kind of bar where you can swear and drink straight liquor and order a burger basket. To the snobs who think they're above restaurants that haven't been yuppified: thanks for NOT going to the Cardinal. Your absense is what makes it great.

A very good neighborhood bar with friendly waitstaff who made me feel at home within the dart throwing/pool crowd, great beer and cool food for the price. An it's right next to the light rail.

Went for a ride on the light rail with girlfriend. Needed to eat. Found the Cardinal. What a gem!! Sat at the bar and they knew it was our first time there. Took exceptional care of us. Food was excellent. Best bar (handpacked) cheap cheese burger I have had in a long while. Great service. Will go back in a heart beat.

You can't go wrong in the Cardinal. It's a hell of a place do eat, play some pool, drink, and take a load off after a hard day's work. The Cardinal isn't a place you should go to if you wear hair gel, get dressed up, or want to dance ...go there if you want to go to a real bar.

THE CARDINAL IS A GREAT PLACE. IT IS REALLY NICE SINCE THEY REMODELED. FOOD AND SERVICE IS TOP NOTCH. EVERYONE THER IS VERY FRIENDLY. THERE ARE QUITE A FEW COLLEGE STUDENTS THAT SHOW UP.

Actually one of the cleanest townie type bars I've ever been in. Maybe the description was written before a renovation? Perfect spot to drop in on a weekday lunch off the light rail. Very good french dip.

The food is your typical tasty bar food, not something you'd eat every day but it tastes great, the beer is affordable and you can have a conversation with the person(s) you came with. The service is also on top of their game.
