The Birchwood Cafe is a Vegetarian Restaurant, voted as one of the best in Minneapolis by Citypages in 2000 & 2003. A nice little health food cafe in the Seward nieghborhood, they are very active in the community and sponsor a bike team. They also line the walls with local artists' work and sometimes feature special shows. Their menu consists of high quality cheeses, fresh fruit, and all natural grain breads. They sell beer & wine only, but offer a good selection to choose from. The crowd is varied age, but the youngest are around 25 (not including families); most live in the area. Perhaps the best thing on the menu are their pizzas, which they offer great specials on for Saturday nights.
Note: The Birchwood Cafe is more for food than drinking or a wild night on the town, but its worth a stop for the health concious. Only open until 9pm.

Birchwood is friggin' awesome. The food is amazing and they actually care where it comes from. Tracy who started it is incredibly involved in trying to make seward and the world a better place. If anybody here has a problem with it, it's really just because it's not what you'd expect to find on thrifty hipster, and I'm not even sure it should be. It's not vegetarian either, but their meat almost always comes from local-organic growers.

Not really a bar. I call it an organic cafe. It's not cheap, but I am unaware of specials. They always have a super unique, healthy yet tasty dish for dinner. Different every time too. If you don't care that you are 250+ pounds & want to wolf down some greasy calories with some beer.....this is not your place. If you maintain a healthy figure & care about the quality of ingredients you put in your body....this may be a staple place for you if you live close.

Consistently amazing food at not unreasonable prices. Complaining that this place is too cruchy is like complaining about a gay bar being too gay. Grow up people. This place is great at what they do.

Yeah, it's "Good Real Food"- made with real QUALITY ingredients and not some mass-produced crap. We don't want your negative vibes anyway, beach club. Go eat some garbage elsewhere.

Birchwood is a not a bar but they do have a great Pizza & wine special on Saturday nights. All the food is excellent and it's located in the "orginal hippy" neighborhood, Seward.
