The Turf Club is easily one of the best places to catch live music. Why? It's certainly not the sound quality or the decor, but rather the intimacy and energy that the live music seems to generate here on a nightly basis. We've never met a mean or stuck-up snob here. Even nights with low attendance are fun. Head downstairs and chill in the Clown Lounge, a 70's style lounge area decked with scary clown statues and circus posters. The best part about the Turf Club is the low cover charges, usually between $2-10, but usually closer to $2. Just try to get there early for popular shows, the Turf Club fills up quickly and lines quickly form outside the door. The interior houses a long bar along the side, a scary rock club bathroom, large booths along the other side, and tables in the back middle (with a small dance floor up front). It is a true rock club and is dark, dingy, and surprisingly inviting. If you aren't too into the music they also have a few pinball machines and pool tables to pass the time. The walls and stage are lined in Christmas tree lights and a thick smokey haze forms from a combination of chain smoking and low ceilings. We recommend the Turf Club for any night that you want to go and see live, loud, and fun music. Take the Snelling Avenue exit off Interstate 94 and head a few blocks north. The Turf club is located right in the heart of Midway in St. Paul. PARKING- is easily found off street or late night on University.
