Tugg’s is the place to go first if you’ve never spent time down on the idyllic-as-hell Saint Anthony Main parkway. A very laid back environment, Tugg’s has a wide variety of people that show up (mostly people who have just gotten off work), usually for its early-to-mid-evening happy hours on Mondays through Fridays. There is the all-important outdoor deck that is absolutely perfect for a summer night of relaxation with a few pints and a few friends. There isn’t a wide variety of beer on tap, but they have the typical favorites like Grain Belt Premium. If you plan to make a stop at Tugg’s and you’re on a budget, do make sure to go there during happy hour (4 PM to 6 PM). The option of ordering food is there and it isn’t a bad option at all: the food is damn good and the burgers are damn big. With the rapid service, the amazingly chill atmosphere, and the outdoor deck looking out over the Mississippi and downtown Minneapolis, it is quite hard to go wrong with Tugg’s on an early evening during the week.

umm...I'm pretty sure there was no alcohol in these way over priced drinks. Probably never going back.

If it didn't have a patio, it wouldn't be in business. The location is amazing and sitting outside is the best. However the drink prices are absolutely insane. I have never tried the food.

Great place to chill on the patio. Great location close to stone arch bridge and NE minne. Give the ladies a break once in a while, the table next to me were complete morons and their server was still nice. I think the staff does their best, I had a great time and they were packed.

This gets 4 starts because of the awesome patio and view from it. Decent food.

I was at Tuggs tonight and wholly disagree with the negative comments on this page. Tuggs burgers were great (veggie option was awesome!), atmosphere was chill (rocket, anyone? very cool idea.), and the crowd was unexpectedly diverse (couples, Norwegians, and college kids). Whatever you're looking for...at least check out Tuggs once. It's worth it. *****

Love this place!!! Charming location, great music, cozy patio. Very fun busy place in the summer, more chill in the winter. Servers always seem to be working hard but keep smiles on their faces. Good food for when you want some burgers, fries, and apps. Interior could definately be updated but all in all a neat place:)

Always understaffed. I should know...I used to work there years ago. Nothing has changed. In fact, if someone dined and ditched you had to fork over the bill yourself as a server. Needless to say there was zero control on a music and patio night. So I sold drinks under the table to make up for it when it happened. Ha!

Man, this place has so much potential. It's off the river, view of downtown and on historical St. Anthony Main. They have overpriced straight from Sysco crap food(round bacon slices? That's what Burger King uses and they don't charge $9 a burger.) Although they try to present some original menu items it's prepared poorly. The atmosphere is like a generic suburb sports bar. Like I said, it has so much potential and is in a perfect location and because of this people always go there and just deal with the mediocrity, too bad.

The WORST service EVER. Congrats Tuggs for beating out Merlin's Rest and the CC Club. In short-never again.

went to tuggs last night and we were told to just grab a table from a server...we did and we sat for a good eight minutes with no one greeting us....multiple servers passed by and didn't give us a second look....when we finally did get a server she was great expect the strawberry lemonade was very sour and the bloody mary was poorly made. the food is okay but overpriced. I think two little pieces of fish for the price was a rip off.

Note to all. Tuggs' in the summer on the patio is always busy and slightly under staffed. all they need is a good wait assist. Especially during lunch. Jamie below said something that erked me. "checks" plural. Always announce promptly to your server that you will require seperate checks. It can take a while to move that stuff around. Tuggs, I love it. Expensive, not that great but nothing is better than a cold brew and a view of downtown like no other. Even if it takes a while.

I'm biased because I love Premium. This place id fun in the summer months sitting on the patio and enjoying a GB. Winter not so much.

My afternoon lunch at Tuggs was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. It took us over an hour to get our food and then about another hour and a half to get our bills. We sat outside and the view of the downtown skyline was amazing, but everything else about this experience sucked.

For sure isn't the best place in NE. Great in the summer for the view of the river and downtown. Food is ok, by no means great. I wouldn't take a date here.

Very nice view of the city. Expensive drinks...food isn't great.

This bar sucks. Went in there for dinner and drinks after work on a Tuesday. Sat at a table inside for close to 20 minutes before anyone even bothered to come over and ask us what we wanted to drink. Actually, that never even happened. We got up and left. Never again!!

Nice default stop in the summer, simply for it's location. To management's credit, the staff/service has improved over the past couple years. I still don't understand why you are not allowed in the band area between Tuggs and Vic's with a cocktail. Stupid! Especially when each place is jam packed on the weekend and you can't get a table to watch the band. What's the concern? Are they worried someone will wonder off with their drink? There's usually two or three cops at the entrance and as many door guys policing the area. A door guy told me once that it was a city ordinance, but that's crap. I don't think anyone would kick up to much of a fuss if the owners lobbied to change that. Come on already! Get it changed!

Tuggs has a huge patio with a great view of downtown overlooking the river. Fri-Sun in the summer they also have live bands play. The food is typical bar food with somewhat unique burgers. Unfortunately the prices are a little high, and the servers can get pretty busy. Overall a good time : )

The service can be pretty horrible, the waitress was not happy to be there, Don't order the rocket, lots of beer in a tall tube, not clean. Nice view though. HH prices aren't to bad. But the rest of the time out of my range.
-- Pete Smith gave this bar a 2 out of 5 at 12:42 05.31.07
What's with all the bars along this street not allowing dogs on their patios? With the exception of The Aster, I'm disappointed that these dudes don't want my business. I take it to Psycho Suzi's or Grumpy's, where the dogs are loved and the beer is just as cold.
-- rock_fiesta gave this bar a 2 out of 5 at 14:57 05.11.07
Do they charge extra for the maggots they serve in the rockets? It was like a bad episode of Fear Factor, Tuggs style, the bartenders were unsurprised regarding the maggots that were floating at the top of the rocket and just attributed it to them not being clean.
-- Weekend Visitor gave this bar a 1 out of 5 at 10:40 07.20.06
The staff on the deck was great and helpfull. But it isnt them for which I give this rating. The "rocket" or large tube containing 6-7 beers and a spout had worms, larvae of fruit flies in it. We poured our beers and drank half before we saw them. One waitress said "I wouldn't want to drink that" and handed it back to me! The bartender calmly said, "oh they're from the rocket" as if it happens all the time. Disgusting, if they can't clean this tube what else is dirty?

the waitress was not happy to be there, making me feel similar.

I am a server at Tuggs, and I find these "bad service" reviews baffling. We all regularly earn tips between 20-25% of our sales. I invite all readers to give Tuggs another shot-- obviously we are doing something right. Check out the bands on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday night. Or come by for Happy Hour (4-6 on weekdays). Have a burger and a beer, and check out the view-- and give the servers another shot!

I would like to see the band venues posted along side the restaurant/bars.

Great place in Summer! Hard to find a table, if you get there past 4:30pm. The strawberry lemonade with Bacardi Limone is sooooo yummy...fresh squeezed and real strawberry pulp. But, you may want to order two drinks at a time. The service can be pretty horrible.

Pretty much a summer only joint.

Sit outside in the summer and enjoy an awesome frozen Hurricane. I absolutely live on those things during July and August. Try a "stuffed" burger while you're at it. They really are stuffed with mushrooms, cheese, bacon, etc. Very tasty.

Good, cheap (daily specials)food and drinks. You'll have the rtun of the place in the winter and during the summer sit outside and enjoy the sights. Free music fri-sun in the summer. They also have an unused pool table and dart machines to keep you busy.
