The Times Bar and Cafe is an upscale jazz lounge. The decor is antique; old wooden walls, tin ceilings, dim lighting... It is also very spacious, holding a large dining room, ample bar seating, and a small dance floor.
Food is contemporary American, but The Times Bar is also known for their fondue. The crowd is very mixed age, but tends to be older couples that come for dinner. Musical acts perform in the evenings (cover usually on weekends) and usually gets packed for dancing to swing, salsa, or jazz tunes.
Located just over the Hennepin Avenue Bridge it is in the area of other great bars within walking distance (Jitters, Bulldog, Mac's Sports Bar, The Front, Nye's Polinaise, more).

It is a beautiful place and good food. I think it is overated though. The service is very slow, but the music is good

I like this place; it has good appetizers, good drink specials, nice atmosphere... but I have been overcharged the last couple times I went there. When I got my tab, they had added a couple drinks more than we had. Since we couldn't proove how many we had, we got stuck paying it all, but we have started hanging out elsewhere in the neighborhood. There are plenty of good places around there.

This bar is one of my favorites in Nordeast. Everything about it is amazing. The look of the place, the music (jazzy, funky, fresh), the food(also, jazzy, funky, fresh), the beverages (a little overpriced maybe). It truly is unique and chill and attracts that kind of crowd!!! Plus they always have a live band playing when I walk in the door!!!

I live in the neighborhood and have eaten here several times - sometimes on busy weekends and other times at 2 on a Sunday afternoon and I've never had a problem w/service. Always seated promptly and receive (friendly) server attention promptly as well. Delicious food and not at all pretentious. If you just want a burger & fry atmosphere go down to Mayslack's. The Times' signature Bloody Mary's are worth a visit all by themselves but enjoy their weekend brunch menu while you're there.

I go to this place every Thursday night to dance salsa to the band Salsa Del Sol. Although I love to go here for the dancing and socializing, there are some issues with the service and their pricing: (1) The bar is notoriously understaffed. It is not unusual to be the only person standing at the bar and having to wait for a while to get acknowledged and a drink order. It gets really bad when it's packed. (2) The cocktail servers are bitter and rude, but don't take it personally. This place gets packed which makes their jobs a lot more difficult navigating the crowd and they let you know it! Chill out...it's not our fault! (3) Now us salseros are notorious for packing a bar, dancing like crazy, and not buying drinks. This, I think, is part of the reason why the cocktail servers are so bitter. But there are many of us who make a concerted effort to spend money at a place like this (there's no cover) because we respect the entertainment and the establishment. But, for a while, I wasn't paying the same price twice for a beer. Within the same evening for a Blue Moon I paid $4.75, $5.25, and $5.75 respectively. Be careful if you open a tab as well. I've bought one drink in a night and have had three drinks on my tab, and I've bought three drinks in a night and have had one drink on my tab. Lately their pricing has been more consistent, but they're channeling what they might be collecting in a cover charge into the drink prices. A Stella is up to $6.25 now. A couple of weeks ago, it was a dollar less. If it's such an issue, just charge a cover. I'd still go. Despite these service issues, it's the best place in Minneapolis to dance salsa.
