We ate at your restuarant 6/17 for the first time. The food was large in quanity but poor at best in quality, in fact bad. Service was awful, waited for ten minutes for beer and had to ask a waiter other than ours for the check. Expensive, we will not be back.

Good but expensive German food. I lived in Germany and this is pretty much the same food you get there! The rap/disco downstairs on the weekends is pretty much just a frat party with busloads of drunks piling in and some puke outside and inside too! Glad they raised the drinking age!

I love the place, I'm just going to comment on the original user's comments. In Minnesota, every restaurant must be named after a person and have a possessive 's at the end of the name. Figlio became "Figlio's" and Gasthof Zur Gemutlichkeit became "Gasthof's." Or in this case, mysteriously, "Gasthofz's." I'm not criticizing, I think it's cute. I'm going to start calling the 20.21 "20.21's" and I highly recommend Lurcat's and 112's eatery. I can understand that most people wouldn't know that Gasthof means "guest house" in German despite the majority German heritage in this state but what's all that "zur Gemcnihetjfjhf" business anyway???? For the naturally curious, the name translates to "Cozy Guest House." So how about this Mario Keller character then? It is, after all, Mario Keller's bar - he must be the German guy! Sorry again - it's Mario's Keller Bar, which means "Mario's Basement Bar." Keller is German for cellar. I know nobody will read this or care, but this is acutally how I chose to spend the last 5 minutes of my life, so if you read this far I'll buy you a snoose at Gasstofzz's place!

I was first taken when I moved here 18 years ago. I have gone back every year since for my birthday or special occasions. More notably for Valentines day with my boyfriend the last 4 years. With having a German Mother and Oma and living in Germany for many years. I can not say enough about how REAL and good the food is. My Mother and Oma would be proud. It does get a little rowdy sometimes, but it is so worth it. But they do need to bring back the Liverball soup!

Food was good. Music loud but fun. After dinner we went down stairs for the polka band music. We had a party of three couples, all of us clost to our 60es. A twenty something year old girl came to our table pulling on the arms of the husbands looking for a dance partner. When the husbands refused her, she started in on the women. Most of us did not appreciate this. She hardly took no for an answer. All the time this was going on, four twenty something year old men are out on the dance floor dancing with each other. I had to ask my own daughters if this was a new thing going on, girls asking married men to dance in front of there wife's. Both said no way.

We went here with a large group of people for a birthday party and had a blast, it was everyones first time here. If you are looking for a quiet romantic dinner this is not the place!!! There is an accordian player and a singer that goes around the dining rooms playing your favorite polka music with many of the patrons joining by either singing, swinging their mugs (or should I say tubs) of beer, or pounding on the table to the beat of the music. You can get "da boot" of beer and you keep passing it around your table until it is gone. Then the waitress had a snuff board (never seen this before) and I was that a blast, that cleans your nostrils out! The food we got was awesome however a bit pricey for the amount you got, but I understand they have a lot of overhead to cover with all the entertainment etc. I am not sure but I think there was beer wagon or trolley set up in the parking lot when we arrived, so I think you can start drinking before you even get in the building! We didn't check out the bar downstairs but from what I hear it is even crazier than the dining room, will be sure to be back to check that out sometime and also to have dinner again. If you have a group of people and want a loud, festive, fun, intertactive dining experience, this is the place to go!!!

It is a great place, except for the air conditioning in the Keller Bar/Dance area. The management doesn't seem to understand that a choice between damn cold and damn hot is not much of a choice. If they would turn on the fan only, without the chiller, it would be nice, but they refuse to consider it. Oh well, just dress in layers; swimming suit with a winter jacket over it.

Loved this place! My only complaint would be that for the restaurant--the prices and portion sizes should be cut in half (or let people share without "upcharges"). I know we would come alot more often, especially when people come to town to visit!

Every time I come here there's sloppy makeout sessions by drunken college kids (no, not me) and chicks in mini skirts with glazed look in their eyes. I once saw a hot girl making out with a fat guy. Sounds like a lot of guys' fantasy I guess. Midget wrestling was a blast though.

Love the bar, German food, and Polka. Hate the 12am and later crowd. Staff is great, the bar is just way too packed for me and feels like a frat party after midnight.

The downstairs bar has a great beer selection but it gets wayyyyyy too packed in there. Perfect destination for a party bus, but this bar is home on the weekends for the St. Thomas preps. Would be nice if they kept the old polka and german music going longer through the nights instead of switching over to the hip hop DJ though. What is this, Gabbys?

Great food, large portions, and the staff are wonderful. Great old time german feel. Some people may not like it but definitely worth a try. Bring your appetite.

The restaurant serves authentic Bavarian food. If you like Weiner Schnitzel, this is the place to go. Mario's Keller Bar has something for everyone. During the week the entertainment is mostly for the younger crowd. Friday and Saturday there is a great mix of the college crowd, on up to the 90 year olds. If you don't know how to polka, ask some of the older people, many will teach you.

We took a HUGE crowd to Gastof's in Feb for my brothers B-day and we had a FREAKIN blast!! We loved the strolling accordian guy and purchased a "song" for my brother!! Not to mention that the wait staff is super excellent!! The food is great and searved in HUGE portions. The atmosphere of the whole place is so fun and you can't help but sing along and yell!! Keep up the GREAT work!!

Excellent Atmosphere for a casual celebration. I was there with co-workers. Dinner was excellent for those who enjoy German:(Read: quality food very simply spiced). Not too tawdry to visit with people you work with. I Would go again.

Destined to become the next Gabby's. The bathrooms are coated in vomit, the booze overpriced and the music reprehensible. I think they stopped playing "whoomp, there it is" several years ago, if i'm not mistaken. The clients are all college kids wearing matching striped polo shirts. The owners are just milking it while they can, since the food upstairs sucks. You can't even get phone reception in that dank basement. The only thing it has going for it is the possibility of taking home a pigeon-brained young girl and getting your rocks off. Hopefully they all stay FAR away from the other GOOD bars in NE.

We chose Gastofs for my husbands grooms dinner in October and it was the best choice! It was hundreds of dollars cheaper than other resturants and we had more food than we could eat. It was a fun and relaxed atmosphere! The atmosphere was great and helped to kick off the weekend with a lot of excitement. We still reminisce about the fun we had, the good beer and of course the boot! Michelle was one of our watiresses adn they really made teh dinner. They were so helpful and indulged our guests in teh multiple requests for snuff. Michelle even sent us a poem for newly weds. Gastofs is rapidly becoming a tradition of our families! It is the place to meet for dinner or celebrate birthdays. My husbands parents enjoying eating at gastofs each time they come to Minnesota.

Its my favorite place in the whole world! The Brantwurst was perfect, the Kraut was so good I had double helpings and the entertainment is beyond fun. My family and I ate here for a graduation celebration for my brother and his wife from med school. The atmosphere and our waitress Michelle were wonderful. Michelle was full of energy and made sure that we were all enjoying ourselves! The food was fast and absolutely delicious. This is a great place to come for any occasion!

I went to Gasthof on my birthday and had a fabulous time. Michelle was our waitress, and she really took care of us! We enjoyed a delicious meal, which included lively music and glass clinking, and then had some cake and an apple shot. It was a blast, and I would highly recommend celebrating your next event there!

This has potential to be the best place in the city, however it is packed with abercrombie college kids from the suburbs. If you like being packed in a basement with a bunch of young yuppies, this is the place for you.

We always make a trip to Gasthof during Oktoberfest. We get a larger group together to go enjoy some great food and beer...and of course we never forget the Boot, Snuff, and the after-dinner apfel shots. The entertainment in the restaurant is fantastic. Our servers were Amber and Michelle, they were phenomonal. We tend to get a little rowdy as we sing songs like the Mailman and Dos a Beer with the accordian player (with a little liquid encouragement). As always - it was wonderful.

I've never had a bad time at Gastovs. You don't go there in search of cheap beer. You go in search of a fun night that you can't really get at the mainstream bars. There is a live polka band that has been playing there for many many years. If you're really concerned with getting blitzed then buy two liters of beer (approx. $20) and you'll get where you want to be. Oh, and ask for a Cinnamon Toast Crunch at the bar if you're looking to get that extra buzz for the night. Anyways, to make a long story short, there's really no other bar where they lead you in a chant of "Ziggy Zaggi Ziggy Zaggi Oi Oi Oi."

This is a deutschfest style bar. Frat central/not hip. The band was playing a mix of polka and Johnny Cash. $10 for a tall bitburger (32oz?) is expensive to me.

Gastoffs is the best spot in all of north east. Great staff. Hot bouncers. The best dancing i've experienced after 12. I dont think its gets much better. Plus a liter of strong german beer for 10 bucks is not pricey. Always start with a boot!!

Once you walk through the doors of Gasthofs, you are stepping into Germany. It is exactly as it would be if you ever eat at a similar place in Germany. Great food, warm people, laughing, and lots of fun. It would truly be a shame if the Twin Cities ever lost this place because I honestly believe that it adequately embodies the heritage of this region. Expect to pay a little more for the food, but remember that the food is AS good OR BETTER than it is in Germany. Also, if you are looking for a quiet place for a nice dinner, this is not your place. There's lots going on here with music, people singing, and swinging their drinks in the air. It is awesome.

I was just going to say what wonderful food and excellent service from start to finish we received during our rehearsal dinner in Mario's Keller bar recently. Then I read the "Frustrated Bride"...and I wanted to share that working with Rosemary and the servers went off without a hitch and we had 85 guests. The communication with everyone was amazing and we will be back to eat, drink, dance and have more parties in the future. I wrote her a note to thank everyone and I hope this bride at least called to share her troubling evening with Rosemary. So to all of them I say Kudos!

I had a private party set up 2 months before the actual day and 2 days before I was told there couldn't be a private party. Random people were eating food, taking pictures and ruining my special day! There was no compensation either. They were very unprofessional and I would NEVER suggest anyone go there when thinking about a event.

The bar is awesome! You can try and get your polka on until midnight on Sat. night, and then move on to the DJ tunes once you're good and drunk. The dance floor and bar is so large and packed it's seemly endless. Much fun. I recommend going there at least once!

It's not for the claustraphobic, it gets a little cramped on the weekends up at the bar and on the dance floor. Really laid back, dress up or go casual with a cute hoodie and jeans. Great Bartenders (Don't forget to tip people!!!) Great Security! Just a good bar all in all!

The beer is all German beer and I haven't found a good one yet, but I still drink it. It's a bit expensive too. But, other than that, a good time. But you have to do a bunch of sniff snuff

If you are looking for something out of the ordinary this is the place. Only German beer on tap and served in .5 or 1 liter mugs. What more do you want. You can be a sally and order a regular drink, but I recommend shooting for something that will knock you on your ass (Tie me to the bed post). Snuff and shots are a must. Get there before midnight and shake a leg to some polka, everyones doin it.

Thrifty tip: after the restaurant starts to clear out, wait an hour or so and then start checking the styrofoam boxes left on the table in the Keller bar. After people gorge themselves on family sized platters of weiner Snitzel and spatzel they go downstairs for a drink and get so drunk on Jaegermeister that they forget their ample leftovers. When I was a poor student I lived for weeks off choice, completely untouched moutains of porkchops and sausage left behind in the Keller bar.

This place is fun and even more beer-ific now with the smoking ban- this is one of the only places that benefitted. As far as authenticity, it is average, but for good drunken singing and dancing, this is the place to be. I think it ideal for large groups.

Gasthof's/Mario's is my favorite place in the TC. Everyone there is so nice. Give me a liter of Hefeweizen and I'm the happiest girl in the world.

Me and my friends always have a great time at Mario's. Awesome beer, friendly people, the polka is different, but they have other music during the week too. It's my favorite bar!!!

I have been here a handful of times and would say this is a place to always have a good time. You have an entertaining dinner upstairs while singing german soungs and then go downstairs to enjoy a litre of soem good beer. This place is always a ggod call for a fun time.

Great German beer tap selection. Loads of fun. Sometimes there's a lot of 21 year olds running amok.

It's a fun place...the snuff can be addicting and your nose will hate you in the morning. Oh and for a good laugh point the boot away from you and take a big swig...let me know how that turns out.

very bad time had by me and my wife. We like to have fun but this place is just a german version of of a frat party. there is nothing scarier than thirty blond haired girls and guys chanting in german while drinking. I felt like we were going to be forced to put on jack boots. the music sucked, the chicken was rubbery, the cabbage was overcooked, the beer was amazingly no good, i mean cmon, this should have a better beer selection than the crap they were serving. I know of pastors that have better beer selections and tougher ones. If you like to drin then drink Baltica #9 at moscow on the hill. Russian food is better, russian music is better and russian chicks are hotter. The only redeeming quality to this place was that the crowd didn't turn violent and incite a pogrom while I was there!

The glass mugs are so huge and beer gets all over your shirt, its like a wet t-shirt contest.

Overpriced? Not if your drinkin a $4 Lowenbrau. Or anything out of the $10 giant mugs (its probably 3 beers). Plus the boot and polka? You can't go wrong!
