Peaking the northern end of downtown Minneapolis, Lee's Liquor Lounge is known for its nightly live music and its old-school atmosphere (can you name that many places that offer swing and rock-a-billy music as often as Lee's does? Doubtful). Lee's Liquor Lounge really is one of those joints that is all about the music, as they say. I mean come on, they have swing dancing lessons every Wednesday night! Lee's has been around for a while (since 1977), but it's held up pretty great. It's a true "dive bar"(and we don't mean that in a bad way).
It gets populated by a wide variety of Twin Cities folks from guys sporting five-inch pompadours to a group of punks to your garden-variety bar-going youth. You can find some cheap specials (like $3 domestic beers) and bar food (burgers, pizza), so it's not too hard on the bank account. The only thing to keep in mind if you want to go here is that it is a cash-only bar, so plan accordingly.
