O'Donovans is a great Irish Pub, one of the best Minneapolis has to offer. They have live Irish folk music and/or acoustic musicians every nite that play hits you know and love, with an Irish beat to it. The crowd is mixed, but a little older than the bars further east on 1st Ave; most range from young proffesional to long-time beer conousuer. Everyone is nice and cheerful.
This is the way to drink beer! Although regular price pints are $5, they come in giant 20oz. pints and are filled with the finest brews from worldwide. They also offer a lot of high-quality brands of Irish Whiskey. The food is also quite good. O'donovans has outdoor seating during the summer that is actually quite nice for downtown and allows for great people watching on the weekends, meeting great people on the patio, and drinking like an Irishman. Inside O'Donovans is decorated like a typical Irish bar with old wood decor, quaint lighting, and chill atmosphere. The weekends get a little more wild with some dancing.

I'd be here all the time if the drinks were a little more affordable... nice atmosphere.

Would have rated higher, but I was there last Friday night, and the "Wild Colonial Bhoys" were playing. While they're a really good duo, they had their volume cranked up WAAAAY too loud. The perfect atmosphere in an Irish pub is when the music is just loud enough to compliment a good conversation. At O'Donovans (at least that night) they didn't fulfill that expectation. Otherwise, though, a good tavern.

Good Irish pub atmosphere, friendly staff, good pints. On my last visit, however, the music was WAY too loud for an average Thursday evening. Who wants to yell to converse with friends during happy hour? Good music, but it took away any "chill" factor.

This place exudes traditional Irish pub values. The friendliness is contagious. The pints are poured properly and taste fresh unlike most downtown watering holes. The staff are knowledgeable. And the bathrooms have that authetic Irish feel to them, which means save your business for someplace else. It's hands down the best bar in town.

This is the most "real" Irish Pub I've been to in the states. The bartenders seem hit and miss, but over all the staff is good, and they get some good live music. Friendly and fun place to meet up with people before a show or after work.
