Kieran’s Irish Pub is a staple Irish pub in downtown Minneapolis to be sure. To give you a good idea, it was next to impossible to even get inside on St. Patty’s Day in 2009; the place was packed floor to rafters with green-clad, shamrock bead-toting young folks bringing out the so-called inner Irish. Was there a better place to do it? Despite there being a good number of Irish bars around the Twin Cities metro area, it seemed rather doubtful. Since the bar opened in 1994, Kieran’s has featured large crowds of the young and middle-aged, excellent local Irish bands performing live, good happy hours throughout the week, and excellent food (served late too), including their popular fish and chips. As said previously, there can be a very large amount of patrons here, but that can be amended by its very large and accommodating outdoor seating (though in the summer, that may be difficult). Of course they are packed with a large selection of beers and whiskeys, but it is worth noting that they WILL serve mixed pints, something that seems lost on a lot of bars. Seriously: if Irish bars are your thing, you won’t want to miss the hagus!

The best Irish pub in the Twin Cities, period. Ignore the bad reviews talking about slow service. I'm here quite often for the drinks, food, and music, and have never had slow service on anything. This is simply the best Irish pub in the Twin Cities for live celtic music, a proper drink, or a number of good foods. Try the reuben, fish and chips, or one of the pub pies. All delicious! Great for St. Patrick's Day too, but prepare yourself for crowds and a small entrance fee---very worth it!

I've started to visit Kieran's more often after my job moved me downtown. Usually just do happy hour drinking, but when I do eat there, the food is always delicious, sometimes a little slow, but good nonetheless. Friday happy hours can get pretty busy, so seating can be tricky sometimes, especially if a lot of us want to sit together. Ask for the waitress who always wears the colorful socks. She's a lot of fun and always knows what she's doing. The rest of the staff is usually pretty great too. Kinda bummed they are moving over to Block E, but should still be a pretty top-notch bar.

That's what you get when your nose is pointed too high in the air to notice the rest of the world. Great live music and atmosphere.

Agree with others that the prices are a little high, always have had good service, the Artichoke dip is the best anywhere. Basically go there when you need a good Irish brew. Otherwise, there are cheaper places.
