Located a bit away from the warehouse district, Grumpy’s Bar is situated near the University of MN Westbank Campus, across the freeway. The interior is usually pretty well lit , but they have a small backroom for live performances and entertainment. The best night is Wednesday, when they host local comedians. Cover is usually free, although the drinks are rarely on special.
The regulars mostly come for a few rounds of pool and kicking back. The crowd is chill and could be considered more “alternative�? than the normal Minneapolis downtown crowds. The music is usually straight out of a jukebox. Parking can be found at meters (most go free after 10pm), but impossible during dome events.
TIP- The Ox-Op Gallery is right next door, making it a perfect place to take a date (culture AND booze).

NE bar is fantastic. Thought I'd get a neighboring work group together to go to the other location. The downtown bar sucks. There was a twins game and they sell the lot at $10, so no parking, and they have a special "game menu". Reheated foods that was beyond what i'd pay for crap. The service sucked. The music was WORSE....(green day?) I left a 22% tip cuz the waitress looked and felt worse than us. I'll never go back. GRUMPY's SUCKS.
