Gangchen Bar is a Tibetan Restaurant just out of downtown on Eat Street. This little known bar is famous among area residents for having regular 2 for 1 specials and some of the strongest cocktails in the area. In fact, you have to brave the first few sips of the drink before asking for more mixer...

The food is good and inexpensive, and includes rice stir frys and soup common further up the street (full menu served until close), however, Gangchen also has a great bar and small lounge ("the room") that hosts nightly DJ's during late night happy hour. Bottom line, Gangchen is a neighborhood dive with an ethnic slant that is inexpensive, chill, and fun.

Thrifty Tip: Park for free at the meters after 6pm

Good food but some of the ESL staff need to work on their English & customer service skills.

This place rules. The food is awesome. 2 for 1 drinks. Everyone needs to go here. Get the cranberry puffers, they're amazing. Oh, and you get your food super fast.

I have never had an issue with the service, it is has always been good (not amazing, but good) and I've been there 10+ times. I often get this to-go as I live close-by, but I've recommended it to my co-workers Downtown and they occasionally pick it up to bring home after-work for dinner. The prices are in-line with your suburban Asian restaurants, but the flavors are way, WAAAY better. The happy hour specials are a real treat too :)

This place is somewhat unexciting when you enter but the food is amazing and the service is very good. It tends to be kind of empty, so it's a good place to go with a big group to create your own fun. During happy hour (and late night happy hour), BOTTLED beers are 2-4-1 (yes, bottles, who does that?) and cream cheese wontons are 2 bucks. I also get Gangchen for take-out as it is a block from my place and pretty darn cheap for the quality. I would say a few of the dishes rival Azia in terms of taste and quality, for about half the price.
